Pattaya, Sois 6, 7 and 8
If you go to Pattaya, you will almost definitely end up on Beach Road at some time. This is the road that runs
parallel to the main beach for its whole length, which is probably about 3-5 kilometres.
Pattaya, Sois 6, 7 and 8
Adjoining Beach Road at right-angles are a number of sois or lanes. Soi 1 is situated in the north and Soi 17 in
the south near Walking Street, so Sois 6-8 are near the centre. Sois 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3 are north of Pattaya Klang
(Central Road) and Sois 7 and 8 are south of it.
The large, flashy girlie bars and clubs are in Walking Street, but most of the 'ordinary' girlie bars are in
Sois 6, 7 and 8. This general area is the location of the fictional bar called Daddy's Hobby in the book 'Behind
The Smile' by Owen Jones. To be more accurate it is between Pattaya Klang and Soi 8.
These three sois have a very different 'feel' about them, although there are exceptions too.
Soi 8 and what a lot of people call Soi 8 and a half are quite tame by Pattaya bar girl standards. Soi 8 and a
half has two live music bars and quite a few girlie bars, but the girls are not openly on the make. They will want
to sit with you, have a drink and go home with you, but they are not pushy and may not allow petting or kissing
until you have made some sort of commitment.
You could take your broad-minded mother or sister in here and not be embarrassed. Most visitors to Soi 8 and a
half go for the live music. One music bar is on Beach Road and the other one is deep inside.
Soi 8 has lots of girlie bars that are a little more racy, but are still quite sedate really. There is an
A-Go-G0 on Beach Road near the entrance to Soi 8. An A-Go-Go Bar is where girls dance naked on stage and sit with
clients between turns. There is also an A-Go-Go at both ends of Soi 7.
Soi 7 is a little more 'lively' and a lot noisier than Soi 8. Soi 7 is probably the busiest of all the sois.
There are dozens of open bars like Daddy's Hobby, where girls work 'inside' and 'outside' the bar. It is extremely
loud and raucous.
In one walk the length of Soi 7, say 400-500 metres, you will be invited to sit down dozens of times, pass a
hundred bars and a thousand scantily-clad girls. The Beach Road end of Pattaya Klang is similar to Soi 8 - a little
quieter than Soi 7.
It is a long walk to Sois 6 or a few minutes on a Baht bus or motorcycle taxi, because there are a few large
hotels in between, but you will never forget Soi 6 once you have been there.
It is quiet compared to Soi 7 and most of the bars have doors, which means that all sorts of things can go on
inside. Soi 6 is definitely not somewhere to take your mother or your sister and on no account your wife or you
will never be allowed back there again!
